Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Admissions Officer. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana. It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.
The Admissions Officer reports directly to the Director of Admissions and Recruitment, and is responsible for reviewing and processing admissions applications for new and returning students. Using the Banner Student System, the Admissions officer will receive applicant data and verify academic credentials using internal and external student data warehouses. The data will be used in accordance with established admissions processes to admit students to the University for the purpose of obtaining certificates or associate degrees. The Admissions Officer will also be responsible for ensuring that the files of the enrolled students are transferred to the University Registrar for permanent keeping.
- Review and process applications for new first-time freshman, transfer students, LPN & CAN students, and online students
- Advise students on admission process by providing current information using exemplary customer service through phone, email, Banner system and in person counseling and responding to all inquiries within 24 hours
- Follow up with prospective students inquires and applicants to guide them through the admissions process
- Compose routine acceptance letters/emails: compiles date for reports
- Visiting with prospective students which may require travel to public venues to include, high schools, two-year colleges and other sites.
- Supervise student workers
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Admissions and Recruitment
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience in higher education enrollment management (admissions, financial aid, academic advising, and/or registration)
- Excellent conflict resolution and organizational skills
- Proficient in MS Office products and the ability to learn other software programs
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and meet stated project deadlines
- Proactive in identifying potential issues; ability to investigate, analyze and interpret data or information for accuracy and completeness in order to make informed decisions
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ethics in data collection and analysis
- Strong attention to detail is essential
- Must pass background check and be able to be certified by Homeland Security as a designated school official (DSO)
Preferred Qualifications
- A working knowledge of the Banner Student System.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English

$32,000 to $35,000
