Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Driver position. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana.  It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System.  The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

 

Responsibilities

Drives the SUSLA shuttle bus, van or other authorized college vehicle to transport students between campuses and provide pick-up /drop off service for participants of grant, auxiliary, athletic programs.  

Specific duties are:

This position assists in the evaluating, planning and coordinating of participant plans.

  • Provide transportation for SUSLA students between campuses for classes.
  • Develop and maintain traveling and time schedules for each semester. Adhere to assigned schedule.
  • Assist with mail service, large packages and courier for the college.
  • Perform and coordinate regular maintenance, inspection, and cleaning service to vehicle(s)
  • Coordinate transportation for auxiliary programs (i.e. athletic teams, grant programs, band and other student groups) on local and long-distance travel as schedule permits
  • Ensure prompt pick up and discharging students at approved stops
  • Develop a system to ensure transportation of authorized students or staff; emergency plan for incidents; and notification or communication system for emergencies, delays or closures.
  • Maintains an acceptable driving record in personal vehicles and SUSLA vehicle as required in the Commercial Motor Vehicle safety act of 1986, Part 383, Subparts B, C, and D of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Reports violations to the Transportation Department.
  • Complies with local, state, and interstate traffic regulations, Transportation Department Guidelines and Institutional and System Policies.

 

 Required Education and Experience:

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • One year of relevant work experience
  • Current Louisiana driver’s license and acceptable driving record verified by the Department of Safety Corrections
  • Possess a Louisiana Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDL) or chauffeurs license. Must pass annual CDL physical examination
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Able to work independently and in professional manner
  • Must pass criminal record check, including finger printing and drug testing. Employee is subject to periodic background, driver’s license, and drug testing.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years relevant work experience
  • Higher education experience in relevant work responsibilities
