Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Financial Aid Advisor position that will be housed in Baton Rouge. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana.  It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System.  The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

Responsibilities

The Financial Aid Advisor position will be housed in Baton Rouge and requires frequent travel. The candidate will be responsible for greeting visitors and providing general assistance to SUSLA students and parents inquiring about financial aid and other goals as needed on the Baton Rouge and New Orleans campuses. This person will be responsible for completing the verification process in strict compliance with all federal regulations and ensuring that financial aid awards are processed in a timely manner. The College Connect Financial Aid Advisor will answer and make telephone calls and complete travel forms. This person will be primarily located on the Baton Rouge campus and travel to the New Orleans campus during registration and during the week, as needed.

  • Counsel students and parents to provide guidance through the financial aid process
  • Complete verification process in strict compliance with all federal regulations
  • Process applications, documents, calculate awards, and conduct follow-up activities
  • Ensure that financial aid awards are issued in a timely manner
  • Provide informational sessions for students and parents on-campus and in the community
  • Participate in student processing activities with the Admissions and Advising teams to ensure that enrollment and retention goals are met
  • Assist in the collection of date for reporting and audit purposes
  •  Administer assigned programs according to federal, state and institutional policies and regulations
  • Focuses on details, organization and meeting deadlines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree; required
  • Excellent customer service skills; required
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Must be dependable and able to maintain confidentiality in data collection
  • Strong attention to detail is essential
  • Frequently travel between New Orleans and Baton Rouge campuses

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of financial aid experience in a higher education
  • Specific knowledge or experience in postsecondary educational assistance processes such as financial ai, registration and admissions

$33,000 – $40,000
