Summary

Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Skill and Resource Developer. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana.  It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

 

Under the general supervision of the Associate Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Workforce Development, the Skill and Resource Developer is responsible for coordinating service delivery of SUSLA’s Office of Career Services and Workforce Development Board 71’s One Stop Program.  The Skill and Resource Developer is responsible for the development, enhancement, maintenance, dissemination, and presentation of resources and training material that increases the work readiness of One Stop customers.

 

The Skill and Resource Developer is expected to:

  • Create and present job readiness presentations and/or informational workshops that teach customers the essential skills for self-discovery, identification of interests, skills, values, personality and strengths, career exploration and selection of educational pursuits.
  • Research, design and update handouts and online resources on relevant and timely career development topics for use in the One Stop or for distribution (labor market data, star job opportunities, partner information, etc.)
  • Secure and maintain local resources of assistance
  • Assist customers in the use of skill center resources and technology
  • Assist customers with job searches, resume development and review, career assessments
  • Maintain awareness and responsiveness to the education and training needs of One Stop customers
  • Submit weekly itineraries, and accountability reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in public speaking and presenting to small and large groups
  • Demonstrated understanding of and belief in the mission of the One Stop System.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail; proofreading skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher) and the internet
  • Ability to manage time effectively and handle multiple projects at one time
  • Ability to contribute to a team and share workspace with other staff members
  • Ability to work independently

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

At least two years of experience in a high paced work environment. Previous experience developing and presenting seminars is preferred. Effective presentation skills and creative use of strategies and technology to engage participants. Knowledge of career development theories and or job search and recruitment practices, knowledge of labor market data, career-counseling techniques, knowledge of job trends and career development skills, effective public relations and networking abilities, and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Compensation:

$10.00 per hour/ 20 hours per week (This is a part-time position)
