Southern University Shreveport Reports Summer Enrollment Increase
SUSLA is pleased to announce yet another historic enrollment for its 52-year-old campus for the summer 2019 semester. Dr. Melva Williams, Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, announced this news on June 19, 2019, and stated how pleased she was with the hard work of her team. In a comment to the Southern University Board or Supervisors, Chancellor Ellis stated, “I am proud of the leadership exhibited by the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management team in coordination with our Business Office, and Academic Affairs; this shows that students are viewing SUSLA as a destination of choice for their education.”
Over the past three years, there has been a 15 percent increase in summer enrollment. The rise in enrollment may partially be due to year-round Pell grants being available, plus the hard work of SUSLA’s dynamic recruitment team. Summer is usually a time that students work fulltime, pursue internships, or take a break from classes. However, SUSLA’s trends show students are interested in continuing their education during the summer.
The focus is currently shifting to fall enrollment as summer comes to an end. Application fees have been waived until August 9th. Rather than waiting until the current semester is over, students are encouraged to start the process now. Early registration will help students find classes that fit their schedule and ensure that they get enrolled.
SUSLA continues to strategically diversify the student body, and add various programs to the university to attract students. Allowing students to choose classes online, or in the classroom keeps this institution pertinent. We are confident that students will continue to choose Southern University at Shreveport when thinking about higher education.
