Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Employment Coordinator/Job Developer. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana.  It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

 

Responsibilities

The Employment Coordinator/Job Developer is responsible for regular contact with businesses in addition to coordinating work experience opportunities, job placements, and transition assistance to postsecondary education.  The individual will be primarily securing work experience sites, working with employers to develop work experience, serving as liaison between employers and participants to ensure a successful work experience along with worksite evaluation. The individual must be knowledgeable of employer needs, hiring practices, and testing requirements to assume employment. The individual will conduct participant orientation sessions, classroom training, related to the work experience and conduct orientation for employers. This position is grant funded and its renewal is contingent upon availability of funds and attainment of program requirements

Specific duties are:

  • Work closely with the Human Resources Departments of businesses to become knowledgeable of their employment needs and secure work experience sites.
  • Maintain contact with employers to stay informed of participant’s progress on worksites.
  • Assess the employability of program participants during initial assessment period and work closely with YNI Case Manager to make available the appropriate support services.
  • Assist the participants in developing a life career plan for post-employment including additional training or skills upgrading.
  • Maintain case files with proper verifications, service documentation.
  • Work closely with the City of Shreveport WIOA management to successfully manage program operations.
  • Assist in provision and proper documentation of financial literacy education, entrepreneurial skills training, and leadership development.
  • Assist participants in preparation for and transition to postsecondary education and training
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree with a minimum of two or three years’ experience.
  • Must have a minimum of two to three years’ experience in employment and or youth services
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills required including conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Strong seminar development and facilitation abilities
  • Work independently and as a strong team member.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Possess a current Louisiana Driver’s License

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with working with disadvantaged populations.
  • Three to five years’ experience developing employment opportunities for disadvantaged youth

Salary

$28,000 – $30,000
