Summary
Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Guard position. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana. It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.
Responsibilities
The Guard is responsible for providing security for all campuses of SUSLA as needed. Promote lawful behavior and protect the welfare of students, faculty and staff on campuses. Assist in regular patrols and inspections of buildings and facilities to identify and report damage and potential security risks. Monitor and report suspicious behavior. Perform foot and vehicle patrols; enforce traffic and parking regulations; enforce rules and regulations as mandated by the university and report violations of ordinances and laws to on-duty sworn officers.
Specific duties are:
- Patrol campus grounds to identify security risks, building checks, unoccupied rooms, and external doors are secured and cars are parked in the appropriate area according to their parking permit. Is available to work various shifts as needed.
- Attend to all responses to alarms, medical emergencies, fires and other similar matters. Alert the appropriate emergency agencies if required.
- Maintain radio communication with campus officers, as well as outside law enforcement agencies as needed.
- Write clear and concise Incident and Accident reports. Is able to make responsible problem- solving issues with little supervision.
- Provide general assistance in a lawful manner as assigned through the chain-of-command.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school Diploma or GED
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Capability to work independently; must be able to work in stressful situations
- Strong attention to details
Preferred Qualifications:
- One year of security experience
Salary range: $22,506 – $39,936
