Summary

Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the HIT Instructor position. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana.  It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System.  The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.


The Instructor serves as a facilitator of student-centered learning and supports the teaching and learning process as a partnership which promotes the exchange of knowledge and experience between teacher and student. Stimulates meaningful learning experiences in a fostering learning environment by enabling learners to develop their ability to solve problems, think critically and creatively, and communicate effectively. Enhances the learning process through educational and discipline specific professional development activities.

 

Responsibilities: 

  1. Collect program data for CAHIIM reaccreditation and assist with preparation for a successful
  2. CAHIIM reaccreditation site visit.
  1. Incorporate the current AHIMA curriculum competencies at the required Bloom’s Taxonomy
  2. Level for the Associate degree level into the respective course(s) content.
  1. Collect data on performance outcomes related for course assessment reports related to
  2. program and course student learning outcomes.
  1. Collect and analyze program data for the program evaluation plan in accordance with
  2. CAHIIM accreditation standards for ongoing program self-evaluation.
  1. Assist with collecting and analyzing data for the program institutional effectiveness plan
  2. that includes outcomes assessment for ongoing program self-evaluation.
  1. Prepare and update curriculum, syllabi, course schedules, objectives, learning outcomes,
  2. visual aids, student instructional handouts, and evaluation tools.
  1. Provide comprehensive instruction in assigned HIT program courses.
  1. Teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses in accordance with objectives of course
  2. outlines, as set forth by the department.
  1. Coordinate with program director in the selection of teaching materials.
  2. Assist in the applicant selection process for admission to the program.
  3. Advise students on academic and professional aspects of the program and expected performance.
  1. Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
  2. Maintain a teaching load in accordance with University teaching workload guidelines.
  3. Serve as a member of program Advisory Committee.
  4. Actively participate in professional and informal learning activities (e.g. district, state,
  5. and/or national level) to enhance personal and professional development.
  1. Maintain continuing education hours.
  2. Utilize health information management software applications for instructional and other program purposes.
  1. Maintain certification to facilitate online/hybrid courses in the Moodle Learning Management System.
  1. Meet all scheduled class, office, and university commitments.
  1. Maintain attendance records on all students.
  1. Prepare and submit accurate grade reports as required by the university.
  1. Promptly report repairs needed for the classroom and equipment.
  1. Keep accurate inventories of all equipment and supplies; report any needed repairs.
  1. Actively participate in the budget process of the university.
  1. Serve as an academic advisor for HIT students.
  1. Attend and actively participate in all scheduled faculty meetings.
  1. Represent the college in a professional manner in all settings.
  1. Perform other duties as assigned by the program director.

 

 Required Education and Experience:

  1. Associate's degree in Health Information Technology from a CAHIIM-accredited program from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
  1. Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
  2. Current active membership with AHIMA.
  3. Greater than three (3) years of relevant experience in a Health Information Management Department.
  1. Certification to develop and/or facilitate online/hybrid courses utilizing the University Learning Management System.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Greater than one (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience as an educator in an HIT / HIM CAHIIM-accredited program from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.

   2. Positive and energetic interpersonal skills that contribute to team outcomes are a must.

  1. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

 

Salary:

$35,000-$45,000
