Summary

Southern University at Shreveport, Louisiana (SUSLA) is accepting applications for the Transfer Analyst/Admissions Counselor. SUSLA is a comprehensive community college serving Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding areas in Northwest Louisiana. It is one of five campuses constituting the Historically Black Southern University System. The University serves approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and offers 32 undergraduate degrees and certificate programs in a variety of fields including Allied Health, Nursing, Aerospace Technology, Business Studies, Behavioral Science/Education and Science & Technology.

 

The Transfer Analyst/Admissions Counselor reports directly to the Director of Admissions, and is responsible for course articulation and official transfer credit evaluations. The individual in this position develops and maintains transfer and course equivalency guides and ensures timely posting of updates on the university website. The position collaborates via on-going training and communication with the Registrar and academic departments to create both official and unofficial transcript evaluations for prospective, admitted, and enrolling new undergraduate transfer students.

Specific duties are:

 

  • Prepares and disseminates official transfer course articulation for all incoming transfer students at the students’ request
  • Works on behalf of the Office of Admissions, in collaboration with the Registrar, faculty representatives, and academic advising, to ensure that the transfer database is revised to reflect new curriculum on an annual basis or more often, as warranted
  • Develops, maintains, updates, and annually reviews articulation and course transfer guides on the Admissions transfer student webpage, in collaboration with the Information Technology office
  • Serves as the liaison for the Office of Admissions in the implementation and routine updating of the degree audit system as related to transfer course equivalencies and substitutes
  • Build and maintain course catalogs for Louisiana institutions using the Board of Regents Transfer Articulation Matrices and academic departmental transfer course determinations
  • Build and maintain course catalogs for other feeder schools on an ongoing basis
  • Provide prospective transfer students with transfer equivalency worksheets outlining how transfer coursework will be articulated at SUSLA
  • At the request of the students, post transfer coursework on the academic record of transfer students enrolled for a semester
  • Act as the primary contact for walk-ins, phone calls, and emails from prospective transfer students, school counselors, community members and the general public
  • Counsel prospective freshmen, transfer students and influencers about individual admissions situations, evaluate course requirements, and other enrollment-related questions
  • Accept and process transfer student admission applications according to institutional admission policy. Review application files and communicate as necessary with students and counselors.
  • Follow up with prospective student inquiries and applicants to guide them through the admission and enrollment process
  • Manage the transfer of transfer students’ admission files to the Registrar’s Office for permanent record keeping immediately after census each semester
  • Perform other duties as directed

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years’ experience in higher education enrollment management (admissions, financial aid, academic advising, and/or registration)
  • At least one (1) year experience in evaluating postsecondary transcripts for transfer purposes.
  • Excellent conflict resolution skills, organizational skills, and customer service skills
  • Proficient in MS Office products and the ability to learn other software programs
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and meet stated project deadlines
  • Proactive in identifying potential issues; ability to investigate, analyze and interpret data or information for accuracy and completeness in order to make informed decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate knowledge and understanding of ethics in data collection and analysis
  • Strong attention to detail is essential

Preferred Qualifications

  • A working knowledge of the Banner Student System is a plus.
  • Familiarity of the Louisiana Board of Regents Statewide Student Profile System (SSPS) specifications is plus
  • Familiarity of the Louisiana Board of Regents Transfer Articulation Matrices is a plus

Salary Range

$32,000- $35,000
