SUSLA Cares Act

  1. SUSLA signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  2. SUSLA has received $2,595,116 from the Department pursuant to the institution's Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  3. The total amount of Emergency Financial Aid Grants distributed to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of April 29, 2021 is $1,133,126.41.
  4. The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is 2,675.
  5. The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act as of April 30, 2021 is 1,487.
  6. The method(s) used by the institution to determine which students receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants and how much they would receive under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.

Student were required to complete a care application and funding was awarded on a first come first serve basis for those who were eligible. The award amount were based on the following metric according to the student application.

  • $600.00 Enrolled for the Fall Term + Not Employed + 6 or more True Responses and Explanations 
  • $500.00 Enrolled for the Fall Term + Not Employed + 1-5 True Responses and Explanations 
  • $400.00 Enrolled for the Fall Term + 6 or more True Responses and Explanations 
  • $300.00 Enrolled for the Fall Term + 1-5 or more True Responses and Explanations 

   7.  Any instructions, directions, or guidance provided by the institution to students concerning the Emergency Financial Aid Grants:

The application for the SUSLA CARES Emergency Grant Fund is now open. Please click here to complete the application. You must sign in with your Moodle login credentials. Duplicate submission of applications may delay processing.

The Office of Financial Aid does not provide status updates on the CARES Act applications. Please allow at least 14 business days after the deadline (June 12th) to receive a payment or an ineligible notice via your SUS email account. Payments should be received by June 30th.

    8.  SUSLA has received $5,665,244 from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for expenditures incurred from the COVID-19 pandemic.

    9.  The total amount of expenditures as of March 31,2021 is $2,034,809.25.

  10.  SUSLA signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the assurance that the institution has used, or intends to use, the funds received under Section 18004(a)(2) of the CARES Act to defray expenses incurred, including lost revenue, reimbursement for expenses already incurred, technology costs associated with a transition to distance education, faculty and staff trainings, and payroll.

  11.  SUSLA has received $3,360,433 from the Department pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement for expenditures incurred from the COVID-19 pandemic.

  12.  The total amount of expenditures as of March 31, 2021 is $3,667,148.36.
